Classical ballet is renowned for its rigorous technique and purity of line. Through progressively more challenging ballet exercises, students build muscle strength and develop better balance and grace of movement as they increase their flexibility. Ballet also helps develop coordination, memory skills and musicality. The courses are a great way to encourage self-discipline and the development of healthy bones, muscles and joints.
We offer Youth Program students the opportunity to participate in a show at the end of the school year. Past performances include an original creation by Brydon Paige, The Wizard of Oz.
Each year, the Ballet Divertimento School awards a limited number of scholarships to the most promising students, taking into account attendance, progress and potential.
Ballet Divertimento offers seven levels of ballet classes alone,
including the highly popular Intro-Ballet
This introductory ballet course is for adults with no prior knowledge of classical ballet. Step-by-step, participants learn the basics of classical technique and the movement vocabulary. The exercises include barre work, ports de bras, allegro and jumps, and make for an enjoyable pastime for students as they gain the confidence to progress.

These dance classes focus primarily on the basic principles of modern dance, such as the concepts of gravity, fall and recovery, and contraction and relaxation. Awareness of body weight is approached through different dynamics and movement qualities, and a varied vocabulary composed of imbalances, balances, rebounds, etc. In a freer style, the dancer is encouraged to express his or her individuality. Modern dance develops abdominal strength, spinal mobility, body flexibility and coordination, spatial awareness and freedom of movement.
The Force and Flex course is an excellent complement to ballet classes as it works to deeply strengthen the different muscle groups. This class reinforces the spinal column, the supporting muscles and the core. By correcting and strengthening the core, it is much easier to avoid injuries while working in class. This class also addresses deep stretching. This work contributes greatly to the consciousness of movement and proper placement. Each exercise is directly related to different dance movements to enhance one’s understanding….
